Whiting

Description: Whiting has brown, green or grey colour on its back fading at the sides. It has large bulbous eyes and three dorsal fins. The Whiting’s upper jaw slightly protrudes and have a faint grey line running the length of their bodies.

Where does it live: The Atlantic, the Mediterranean and North Sea. It’s extremely common around our shores in the UK.

When is it in season: Summer, Autumn & Winter. Bigger Whiting can be caught in the winter months with 1-2lb fish being quite common at that time of year.

What does it eat: Whiting feed on creatures on the seabed such as shell fish or other smaller fish. They are aggressive hunters and compete for food among themselves.

Size: Roughly 30cm.
