Hake

Description: Part of the Cod family Hake is a striking looking fish. Hake have long slender bodies which are silvery grey in colour. They have a think black line running the length of their bodies. They also have quite prominent teeth and look metallic in their appearance.

Where does it live: Hake like to live deep but hunt in shallower waters. They are found in The Atlantic, The Mediterranean and if the water is warm enough, The North Sea. They can be found at depths of up to 1000 meters.

When is it in season: June to November.

What does it eat: They eat small creatures on the seafloor but as they grow they become very aggressive and eat other fish and sometimes each other!

Size: 30-45cm.
